BAVIAANSPOORT ONTWIKKELINGSDAG

A development day was hosted by Baviaanspoort Correctional Services on Friday 15 February 2013 which took place at Roodeplaat dam

 The meaning of this event was to get parties interested and involved in all aspects regarding freshwater bank angling. This is the first phase in the planning for development of Baviaanspoort Correctional officials .

 Baviaanspoort Correctional angling club under the leadership of the chairperson Riaan Lerm and his committee members of which also includes Gauteng North league anglers from Correctional Services angling club took the lead, facilitated the day and dealt with the following aspects;

-          Traces
-          Bait presentation
-          Casting techniques
-          Handling of fishing equipment
-          Conservation of fish

 They were also taught the importance of attitude, confidence, passion, dedication and discipline towards the sport.

Everyone started off slowly seeing that it were the first time that some of them handled a fishing rod or even saw a sliding rietvlei trace but soon they got into rhythm, build confidence and started to catch some fish. Roodeplaat dam is generally known for his ability to turn his back on you and leave you hanging with an empty keepnet, but on the day the “fishing spirits” were with us and we were lucky enough to have caught a respectable amount of fish.

At the end of the day when you heard, saw and felt the excitement and thrill of the angling scene it was legible that the day was a huge success and that a new respect and perception towards the sport were formed.
